The fact that a series of 30 minute shorts almost blew away the entire franchise in terms of storytelling speaks volumes about the quality of the films. For Jewwood it was a groundbreaking movie for sure, for humanity as a whole, it was fuckin' trivial. The bottom line is that the only decent stories actually told in The Matrix universe were written by Japanese animators.
