As a city, it's a little easier to slip in if you're a newcomer, but there is still a very strong culture of privacy. It is a good inbetween, but you have to look hard to find stuff to do. They certainly exist though, there's a comic shop, 2 arcades, tons of small shops, tons of restaurants, and a park all within walking distance. In fact, you could circle the whole city in a brisk walk in just a couple of hours, it's that small. There's a park with a pond where the ducks like to hang out, but if you want any nature further than that you've got a bit of a drive ahead of you. The closest area I found is a small island 15 minutes drive away that used to house a school for the blind, but now its a hiking trail. There's also a strong asian community, and the best damn Japanese restaurant I've ever eaten at in my life. There's also areas mostly inhabited by Somalian immigrants, but I've rarely come into trouble with them. Don't bother them, they won't bother you.
