Christian mysticism when it was combined with a european pagan society was amazing and beautiful. The age of enlightenment and liberalism, the translated bible, the rise of literacy, the erasure of tradition and culture, and then the shift of looking at the bible through literalist, individual interpretation, made Christianity a breeding ground, a gold mine of subversion.
