Because, isn't "jew" a word that didn't even existed in biblical times, and it's more modern and associated with Talmudic Judaism, or "jewish religion"? and also a word that doesn't entirely match for "Iudaeus"? Because that word match better with, for example, "judío" in spanish, and in that sense is reasonable the confusion between "someone from Judea" at those times, and a "modern jew"
