Basically, I would have imagined his wanting to become a pirate and adventurer an attempt not only to avoid all the trappings of a conventional life but also to avoid becoming an adult or growing up.
And thus I have to wonder, did he become more willing to accept the role of adulthood when he becomes a respectable captain or ranking official, whatever he is. Either that, or does he still manage to stay true to himself?
Obviously at the end he almost become the equivalent of royalty or nobility by becoming so high ranking, hence his all white uniform, which all goes along with Disney’s conception of what royalty stands for to them.
So I don’t know, the point is maybe he never fully changes.
