What purpose does that serve to/for gods or demons? One would think these beings are beyond the need for sustenance or banal pleasures. I understand the gods are temperamental and have their own wants and needs, but based on this; existence seems like punishment for a crime nobody committed.
I'm happy to side with the demigods. I wouldn't mind being one myself (even though I'm more inclined toward Shiva than Krshna in this context). If i were a supreme being, I wouldn't create something with a soul just to kill it for pleasure. It's the age old idea of 'just because you can, doesn't mean you should'.
