Not sure where the author was inspired from but he was able to capture the soul of the Age of Discovery beautifully
I also really like Ergo Proxy though it gets confused a bit in its message, at least Dai Sato tries to write something deeper than "we should all get along" or "save the trees"
Anything made by Manglobe is good, generally, they were the type of studio that published well written story-driven animes that became classics but couldn't sell merch or pump out dozens of seasonal slop
