Okinawans used to live longer than the rest of Japan, people assumed it was the diet, books were written, a vegetable was called wondrous and mass imported from Okinawa to the mainland, but it turns out that it was because Japan was poor as shit in the 50's and 60's, and the American bases in Okinawa were a huge economic engine back then.
Okinawa is now a bit poorer than the rest of Japan and their life expectancy is now accordingly not the highest. Also, Switzerland has a completely different diet and the life expectancy there is only like 6months shorter than in Japan.
