I played AOE2, AOE3, Rome Total War etc. from a very young age and then later (and still currently) grand strategy games and historical games. If you go on /v/, /vg/, /tg/ and other sites you'll find that there is definitely a propensity for right-wing values and nationalism if one is immersed in history.
From an academic background, I can tell you that the classics and ancient history departments of many universities are some of the most bizarrely conservative out there, despite what you might think. The academic tends not to give a fuck about whatever ideological crusader people in say, the modern history department, or women's studies departments are going on about. Post-colonialist and Marxist readings of history went out of favour in the Classics like 30 years ago. They had enough of that shit in the 60s.
