>>19028337Carmody pauses. Of course Sola's not fine. But whatever it is, she doesn't want Carmody anywhere near it, and it wasn't too hard to see why. Colby had said in her dumb video that Carmody would be a distraction and cost Sola her two-out-of-three falls match with Karna, the most important one of her career, and wasn't that more or less what'd happened, on a day after she'd made a further distraction by letting Sola know she LIKED her in front of a former Dojo classmate she had history with? Yeah, there were reasons they hadn't talked. Maybe after some more time passed they could work it out.
Or maybe not.
Either way, she also couldn't turn to Sola right now for help with her own problems. Knowing Sola had other things on her mind, lots of which was partly her own fault, and seeing how she'd reacted to Priscilla, the idea of asking for backup, of asking her to stick her head in the lion's jaws like Carmody herself just had was not one she could consider right now.
>>19028228A text message rings in on her phone, but she doesn't pay it any mind. She can imagine who that is.
>"Yeah, I get that. Got a few things to work out for myself too. Let's talk sometime, when you get a moment? I'll see you around."Carmody strips out of her own gear, stuffs it into the locker, and heads for the showers.
There's a sense of irony Carmody can't escape. She'd talked about her friends and Dojo teammates as the reason she was still here, and that was true. And the one thing Priscilla'd said that really made her mad was saying they were losers, or parasites. But she was alone right now, and feeling it. Her thoughts drift back to the contract, unsigned, with the rest of her stuff in her locker.
No, no time to think about that.
Worry about the other contract that she just signed, and what she was about to have to do.
