Another way to get exemption is to get a gold medal in the Asian games which South Korea did in 2014 but Son wasn't part of that squad so he needs this. I'm not too sure about the exact differences between the squads then and now but there are other players who also missed out in 2014 and so should be motivated now too. It's a real shame because Son wanted to play in 2014 but Leverkusen wouldn't let him miss 6 of their games so he had to stay in Germany and missed his chance. His career will be ruined for the sake of 6 games
