4chan uses a different method of generating secure tripcodes from other imageboards. You can place multiple hashes into anywhere in the tripcode, and as long as you have two it'll be treated as a secure tripcode.
The distinction is important because elsewhere you can use both a normal and a secure tripcode at the same time, but on 4chan you can't.
Also, there are subtle differences between tripcode implementations, where some characters being used can result in vastly different results. & is one of these characters.
