I've lived in apartments for 5+ years
What's good:
- Something breaks, apartment has to fix it
- Leasing office can accept packages for me
- No shitty lawn to take care of
- Don't have to worry about housing maintenance costs
- Don't have to worry about shoveling snow
- Mail gets delivered in locked box
- Can literally throw anything away in the dumpsters as long as you don't get caught (couches, TVs, old grills, bicycles)
What's bad:
- Can get some shitty neighbors that move in
- A flooded toilet above you can turn your apartment into a swimming pool
- Can't listen to loud music or vacuum at 3 am
- Hallway always smells like weed
- If a new resident brings roaches with them, the whole building gets them
- Too many wifi signals in a confined space means wifi is extremely shitty (currently have most of my apartment hardwired).
- Apartment refuses to replace shitty appliances that don't work that well but still technically work.
- Apartment fire in another unit can get the whole building condemned and make your entire apartment a total loss.
