April to May is a transition into the low volume dog days of summer June-August before volatility picks back up in September when the Fiscal Year ends (COHENsidentally it's also when you have the Hebrew New Years---Rosh Hashanah)
This is why most people parrot the "sell in May; go away". it doesn't necessarily mean the markets crash right after but a general rule of thumb for traders to book profits and go on holiday.
