They worship Mary, they wear long clothing and call their pastors "father" all of which are strongly rebuked by Jesus Christ Himself. They believe in stuff like purgatory or confessionals, neither of which are in the Bible (the Bible says we should confess our sins to one another, but never go tell the priest).
That is to say, Christians never took over Rome. Christianity is nothing like c*tholicism. I am sorry you have such a bad impression of what Christians stand for, but I can assure you that you have been misled by bad actors.
