The more complex the weapon the more training and experience you need. Flail weapons have huge wind ups and flat snaps aren't really viable.
The same logic can be applied to swords in that they're limited. You have a single edge which limits the strikes you have available.
A club is simplicity at its finest. It doesn't matter how you hit it or what strike you use. Technically you have the full book of strikes including your 8 basics. Your 5 defensive positions are also highly effective as if you damage my weapon it doesn't matter. I bust up or bend your sword and you're fucked.
In summation your flail idea is retarded because of it's limitations and lack of versatile strikes.
3/10 weapon I wouldn't give to my squire.
