That's not an issue for someone like OP who has guaranteed income and can work online or part time doing what he wants. It is very comfy; I grew up around there. People from big cities might be turned away by the "lack of things to do" but, like I said, you can find great homes for good prices well within a day trip to plenty of major cities if you want to go to a game or a nice restaurant or get to an airport. Here's a fairly big, pretty secluded home in Hurricane, close to 2 airports in Huntington and Charleston (state Capitol).
