Azumanga Daioh's an intermediate one. It's one of the few Slice of Life/moe anime out there that people who don't enjoy slice of life/moe can actually enjoy. Same writer as Yotsuba, too.
Personal favourites that I wouldn't recommend to anime newfags but I consider the best animu out there would be
>Texhnolyze (really nihilistic psychological thriller)>Katanagatari (hour long episodes, beautiful artstyle, adventure/romance anime)>Patlabor (comfy SoL/police/mecha anime, incredible 80s animation that holds up even today)>Now and Then, Here and There (really brutal, gruesome and depressing dystopian sci-fi anime)>Kino's Journey (really relaxed adventure/SoL anime that raises a lot of questions about society)Also watch everything subbed. Dubs are garbage
