Not really true. In the era of extreme novelty (early 3d, early home consoles) the minute to minute fun metric was higher because you'd routinely be exposed to completely new ideas that blew your fucking mind. You'd be playing a fighting game and then find out that simulation games exist, and then fighting in space or whatever before going on a long RPG journey. All of which were completely novel concepts.
What we have now is refined, but it's not more fun.
