I live in the north of France, not far from Dunkirk, and when I was in primary school a teacher organized a school trip to Dover, a sort of Franco-English friendship trip.
Except that we didn't take it like that but more like a remake of the 100 years war.
Already on the ferry we'd made a mess of things, sneaking into first class, stealing things from the store and trying to take control of the ship as 10 of us raced towards the place where the ship was piloted.
We calmed down when the captain threatened to throw us all into a lifeboat.
Once in England, I learned that even seagulls don't respect the English. Dunkirk and Dover aren't that far apart, so we're supposed to have the same seagulls, except that in England they shit everywhere and don't hesitate to attack.
After having a lot of fun making a mess in the streets of Dover, we went to meet an English school for a picnic in good French. We insulted them and threw things at them until one of them came up to us and said "Nan mais vous savais qu'on est Français aussi?" in fact it was a French school in England.
We had a good laugh. Our teachers much less so.
