>it wasn’t, until Youtube became corporateThis started in 2014, when Susan Whackamole (RIP) became CEO of YouTube and you saw the onset of Adsense bullshit and sponsorships plaguing the site. Starting in this year, you really start to notice that YouTube is becoming more like cable TV. The whole “community” aspect of YouTube was effectively dismantled in favor of pushing Late Night Hosts, podcasts, news, etc. YouTube’s identity from 2005-2013 was (is) effectively gone. Concerning Smosh, you begun to witness the phaseout of why people loved the three channels to begin with (Anthony and Ian, their friendship, their adventures together, etc). Smosh videos stopped taking place in Sacramento and starting taking place in L.A, and this is a major part of what stripped the channel of its humanity. That, and Anthony and Ian being effectively phased out in favor of Vine refugees aren’t in any way, shape or form funny and just push idpol/third wave feminism in a place where nobody is looking for it.
But I’m just rambling. TL;DR I miss the good old days and I will always love *emo* Anthony.
