I won't get into the details of each side, but I personally disagree because the definition of a person, human or juridical (at least under Argentine law) is "an entity capable of acquiring rights and contracting obligations". Animals can do neither, so I don't think they should be considered persons. That doesn't mean they can't be protected under the law, but it does mean that they are not the ones that possess those rights, but rather human society is.
