1. Origen had to address Matthew 19:12 because he later regretted his decision.
2. Origen had to condemn the popular practice of castration among Christians due to their reading the words of Jesus.
Origen doesn't stand alone here. He was in the company of many other fellow Christian eunuchs, and Justin Martyr confirmed that castration was a thing Christians would try to do in his first apology without any embarrassment about that fact. (Which is really weird considering you'd have to have a warped perspective to think the desire to be castrated makes Christians look better somehow.)
