People with autism are solitary foragers, or lone hunters. They absorb more sensory information than most people (in order to hunt better). This means their brains have to work harder processing all the information. This is why they get overstimulated and “burn out”. When you are tired and stressed you get grumpy and irritable. If autistic people are in an environment that is not overstimulating, they can be very amiable. Autistic people don’t always know what the problem is. When there is a a lot of background information your brain is automatically processing, you just start to feel a general sense of unease and stress without really understanding why.
