5. Then we take a closer look at the province of Skyrim, in which the game is set in. (Skyrim is modeled after Scandinavia) Skyrim is embroiled in a deadly civil war, which has two distinct sides. The Empire with its puppet Jarls, against the Stormcloaks, a nationalist separatist movement that wants independence from the Empire. The leader of the Stormcloaks is a man named Ulfric, who is an ex-Imperial legionnaire war veteran. He calls out the Empire as what it is – a dying, corrupt entity. He is also concerned with mass immigration to Skyrim, and how the ancient city of Windhelm is swamped with Dark Elf immigrants who don’t assimilate. But there’s another reason he wishes for independence, which is a far more sinister threat to Skyrim than the Empire itself.
