I am a Lutheran in a catholic country, and he was absolute right.
Catholics still worship demigods, they just rebranded them as "saints". Like the Romans, Catholics have one saint for every thing. Can't find a girlfriend? Light a candle for Saint Anthony of Padua. Lost something? Pray for Saint Longinus, and so go.
Plus, it was way, way worse before Luther. The Catholic Church straight up charge material wealth to redeem sins, not only banned, but actively punished people who tried to translate the bible (which is ironical, since the original was written in greek) and the absolute majority of people here would not eve have a surname if not for the Council of Trent as part of the counter reformation.
