Problem with recent versions of that is that they always paint them as a caricature, kinda like those webcomics with the excessively angry and belligerent retard vs calm and rational person.
There's no objectivity.
I agree that when done right, creating a moral grey area, it can make for compelling characters and a great narrative but that just isn't how it works when the people making it have an obvious agenda.
It's not about characters or telling a story, it's about making the audience agree with them.
