if you study stoic philosophy, which itself goes back to ancient Greece before the Romans adopted it, you'll see the roots of everything uniquely Christian right there, winking at you.
not saying that christianity isn't extremely moral because of this - it is, but it's the same damn philosophy and you can shortcut everything tradition by being a stoic pagan who worships Jupiter/Zeus as far as I'm concerned.
