OK all so here's my line of thinking:
* Theif harmed neither the old men nor their families either physically or financially
* Theif was not a public figure in the past or present
So what motivation would the old men have to be happy about his death?
My first thought is a high-profile crime/robbery, but why would the boy bring his hand to these three old men specifically, rather than say, local authorities?
Any other ideas?
