Thing is, that winters are pretty harsh in Russia. It can be quite depressing for those who are not prepared for it. As alternative to it, would recommend to look at first for options:
a) Hungary
b) Serbia
c) Slovakia
Those are closer to Germany, so will be easier to travel back to visit parents and so on. And climate is way milder than in Russia.
