You pretend like Christianity was essentially a cult of like 5 Schizos up until Theodosius made everybody Christian which is not how it played out.
Christianity grew thoroughout the centuries, was already significantly present during Nero's reign, had its first major autism fits in the second to their century (Arianism) and was first officially tolerated by CONSTANTINE. Not Theodosius. Google it.
Up until everything else was outlawed, Christianity had been state religion for almost a century.

Germanic tribes followed the example of their leader, who often time converted to be on better grounds with the Christian world. And while their soldiers may not have been Christian at first, intermarriage with Christians, living together with them etc. Gradually transformed their societies into Christian ones.
