So last time I told you guys about the mud and the road
This time, I'm gonna tell you about the mud and the stars.
So there's this thing somebody wrote, I think it was some jackass who wrote a book on how to not be a jackass. Ironic, I know. But that's fine, because he said at least one thing that was worth listening to.
"Two men look through prison bars. One sees mud, and one sees stars."
Now there's a few ways you could take this. Your conventional, ivory tower prick probably looks at this and thinks looking at the stars is a good idea. Shoot for the moon, and all that bullshit. Well I'm here to tell you that it ain't just so. Chances are, you are never gonna hit anything anywhere near that. You might. But if you have to give serious considerations as to whether or not you will, maybe consider a muddier path.
Our boy behind the bars looking down at the mud, he's a boy with his head on his shoulders. He's in a prison. He doesn't want to reach the stars. He knows they're beyond his grasp. He wants to be free. He's not the best, but a man's a man, and you can take a man out of the mud, but you can't take the mud out of a man.
In a word: Manage your expectations.
