The first Apollo missions were filmed on Earth by Stanley Kubrick. Here is a photo of Kubrick meeting with NASA officials before the first "Moon landing". Kubrick went on to make a movie called "2001: A Space Odyssey" which featured a long sequence of a landing pod landing on the Moon. Kubrick filed the sequence in a vacuum so the dust would settle correctly. He helped develop very fast lenses for shooting in low light that he gave to NASA. Clearly all the technology to film a realistic Moon landing in studio was there, all you have to do is watch 2001 as proof.
Why did they fake the first Moon landings? Because there was a huge competition between the US and USSR to get there first, and Kennedy NEEDED to "get a man on the Moon" because he promised to do so by the end of the 60s, and for propaganda reasons during the Cold War. So they hired Stanely Kubrick to film the "landing".
We eventually did get to the Moon in later Apollo missions, but that doesn't preclude the fact that the first missions were filmed on a soundstage.
