We revere them, yes, but we don't directly worship them. When we pray in their names, we pray for their intercession with God, we pray that they can basically ask God to grant our prayers on our behalf. At the end of the day we're still praying to God, the saints and angels just add another step in it.
Intermediate figures can definitely be useful, I agree. They can help build a stronger culture and lore around the religion. But in the case of that anon's post, if the pagan gods themselves ARE the intermediate figures, then why do they become the center of the religion?
If there's one God above all of the other pagan gods that acts as the creator, the one with omnipotence, omnipresence, omniscience, etc., then wouldn't that just become the same thing as Christianity with God being at the top and his Archangels being lesser powers that act on his behalf or represent him or something along those lines?
