As far as media consumption goes, Japanese is more useful, unless you have an interest in Russian gangster movies or something. Russian is getting increasingly replaced with English around here anyway and even in places where it's native, you won't have issue getting by if you're just visiting. Except maybe if you're looking to become the next bald and bankrupt.
