About one year ago, grocery stores were shuffling to restock shelves after waves of customers bought many items in bulk.
“It was insane in here especially those first couple weeks in March. We had lines going all the way down to our dairy coolers with everyone in here," said Graham Gooch, store manager of Herrama's Marketplace in Irondequoit.
Jim Krygier of Penfield says for the first time in years, he's shopping at different stores each week to compare costs.
"Over time, that’s a big bite out of your budget. If you shop around, I think it’s more prudent. I used to do that 10 years ago, if you find it cheaper there then that’s the store you go to," said Krygier.
Small, locally-owned stores like Herrema's say the spike is likely coming from the warehouses.
"Many prices we don’t set ourselves and it comes through our warehouse so it does go up when they can’t get stuff, and the demand and supply for it," said Gooch.
