>>3305899Sole idea of a show based on over-the-top representation of mahjong is fucking beautiful and I have really hard time looking for anything it did wrong in it. Characters are less like your typical anime schoolgirls and more like superheroes, most of them have some distinct abillity with its backstory and such. Almost all characters in the show (and it introduced quite a few of them, at least to a point where I am, but I just got past the climax I think, it's closer than further, so not many new ones will appear, I don't think) are likeable as hell; it doesn't force any sophisticated personalities, most of the (mainly) girls are pretty, let's say, "standard", they follow some archetypes. You have your kind and caring one, you have energetic baka, you have Scarlet Devil Mansion etc. etc. That's a good thing imo, it fits really well with the way flow of the show is, it takes time to properly introduce, develop and end threads for those one it does, yet does not overdo it (exception being the main characters, but well, they are mc's, so it's just doing more, not overdoing I'd say). There are no real bad guys, everyone has their motivation, every team has its reason to try to win at all cost. Oh, yeah, and that girl, Saki, is the main main character, the title hero, should've mentioned that. She's Takumi.
tl;dr Over-the-topness, simple, yet interesting and accurately developped characters, good usage of screen time and just pure fun coming from it. I couldn't help but laugh continuously, not because of some jokes or singular funny situations, but because of the whole thing itself.
One thing I maybe didn't like is that motive of one of the main characters having huge tits, but that's just me and, well, that's what I get listening to Korean musical interpretations of paintings. Apart from that I love everything about the show.
I know only basic rules of the game and went through just fine, those shouldn't be a problem. Or you could learn what is "pon", "kan" etc.
