Called "Corruption Virus" its a spiritual taint which infects a Soul and causes it to behave 180 degrees to the harmony of reality.
This isn't like wolves eating cattle or demons making deals with people. At least there is a natural flow from that and lessons to be learned.
Instead Evil corrupts the very purpose of a being and cuts it off from the universal flow. Causing it to become possessive and see all things, including others, as food or possessions that can actually be owned.

That Evil is just Darkness, when its just that denizens of the dark being abit more selfish than most were easier to infect with corruption. But it also very much functions in the Light too
