Even if you were an evil, power-hungry psychopath, wouldn't you still want humanity to flourish? I'd rather be an "elite" in a world where humans are technologically advanced and seeding the galaxy, instead of some dystopian hellscape where the population is capped at 500 million and innovation stops because of totalitarian insanity and weird cult beliefs that follow some moron's writings from the late 1700s.
