/pol/ was created as a containment board during the days of /new/ with the intention of getting all the Stormfront posters out of other boards because of the their Nazi shit. It worked for the most part but /pol/ started to permeate through every board and even reality itself. As such /bant/ has been created in an effort to contain all the shitty /pol/-tier meme culture. You see /pol/ has a very dedicated user base that creates very powerful meme culture. This culture is rooted in National Socialism mixed with local cultural values from all around the world and as such is prone to heavy censorship and/or subversion. This causes the users to feel the incessant need to fight for their cause no matter where it may be. A lot of people aren't okay with this.
As such /bant/'s creation is much like the original purpose of /pol/. To contain a powerful meme culture. The kekists, aussies and leafs have gotten so out of hand that it's hard to discern what's trolling anymore. When poos in loos are talking about shitting under maple trees in Canada you realize this is no longer about politics.
People want a serious place to talk politics.
