"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast."
We are not saved by works, lest any man should boast. Our works are like filthy menstrual rags compared to what Jesus did for us(Isaiah 64:6).
We must accept the free gift of his sacrifice on his cross and put all of our faith into the singular work that he performed to save us. Now this doesn't give us a license to sin, but when we do sin we have the best advocate we could ask for!
