Magic Knight Rayearth if you want to see fantasy mixed with magical girls and super robots.
GaoGaiGar's a kickass super robot shonen that was made in response to Eva and its copycats, it was a giant "fuck you" to all of the coldblooded and grimdark mecha that was abundant in the late 90s. Its OVA sequel is unarguably some of the finest mecha ever produced. Also worth watching when you're done GaoGaiGar is Betterman, a spinoff story centered around a different cast and story in the same setting at the same time, though its tone is more in line with the darker mecha. There's also Brigadoon which is set in the same world but 40 years in the past with a completely different story, it's tonally all over the place and my personal favourite.
