Not west Africans but those same west Africans came from that region in antiquity.
This is what those old books say, and genetics/migration studies on people affirm this with the timing of African cultures popping up and moving around, like the Bantu migrations for example, they were sparked by Eurasian blood.
And this is why black people we wuz, because of ancient Greek and Roman accounts as well as the bibles. Not because of their imaginations.
