>>1005092That's a good question, i work as historian here in bavaria and the most accepted meaning of the colour black in both german flags is that before 1840 and also after the elite units of our armies were in black.

Later the Waffen-SS and Allgemene SS also adopted the black uniforms and Totenkopf.
This is also why the Totenkopf pre-1937 re-design is not banned in Germany. We have traditional army groups dressing up as "Schwarze Husaren" using the same uniform.
