The problem with Europeans though is they are often very blind. They point fingers at America but fail to realize they are being Americanized in their own way. "The United States of Europe" isn't that far off from what happened here in the States.
You have to remember that we were originally pretty autonomous when it came to States Rights. You could argue in many ways that States ALMOST had the same amount of autonomy as a nationstate within an Alliance which was held together by an elected council not that far off from the current EU. It was an economic union and one that ensured States simply didn't start warring with one another. However, we had massive amounts of centralization that led to a very bloody Civil War. The Federalists, as we call them, won and in the end this of course meant more foreign influence (which is something that was WARNED against by the Founding Fathers). Try not to make the mistakes and failures that plague our history, Europe. Although, judging by this thread I think Europe is probably doomed to repeat our mistakes.
