While my late husband was alive (still with me in Spirit) he had full awareness and put some sort of block on close friends and when we'd go out in public. Turned off for friends (unless it was specific work to help them but non invasive) and said grocery story was like a kind of dull background radio static with the effect on. I get telepathy sporadically but nothing that has caused distress or harm to myself or others so I'm yet to need to do such. Hope sharing this helps in some way. I'm still mastering my abilities that are slowly coming back to me as I get my memories back (I can heal with my hands)
