Read NKJV or KJV and then realize you don't understand it, then read NLT or NIV. I don't really think anyone can fully comprehend the Bible until they've read several translations.
I don't know what to tell you about picking a church. Pray for guidance when you feel you are ready. If you have trouble reading the bible, there are apps that give you a passage a day or so.
