I was a grad student in physics. Back in 1980 or so.
A group was doing research in the acoustic emission of metals as they fatigue.
They were going to make a post in answer to a question on sci.physics, a "usenet" board.
Our "org", Organization would be on the post, so we all got a vote on the content. The reputation of our whole .edu site was on the line.
It was treated like a "Letters" article you see in the journals, but we self edited and peer reviewed.
--- fast forward.
First Fidonet attacked the usenet, then AOL - then Called "Apple On Line" got access to the usenet and the whole thing went to shit very rapidly as the hords of ignorant asshole started posting and ruined the whole thing.
Now we got /pol/, which was once a mighty board of information before the demon kikes found it.
