Lewko of Krakow (d. 1395) – The wealthiest Jew of Krakow (and Poland) in his time; he acted as court banker of the kings of Poland. The son of a wealthy merchant and real estate owner in Krakow, Lewko is mentioned in documents from the early 1360s as the owner of houses and building plots in the city. He amassed great wealth in dealing with these properties and began lending money to feudal lords. King Casimir III the Great, who put much confidence in him, entrusted him with the administration of the royal salt mines of Bochnia and Wieliczka and the mint of Krakow in 1368.

Anselmo De Banco (d. 1532) – Head of the Jewish community in Venice and owner of several loan banks in the Venetian territories. His brother (Hayyim) was also a wealthy banker and philanthropist. The family were proprietors of one of the seven Venetian synagogues, known as the Scuola Meshulamim.
