In return for this work they received enough money to buy a house and a support a family while having enough leftover for holidays and such. Nowadays you're expected to do those 8 hours minimum plus unpaid extra hours on top of it and in return you're barely paid enough to support yourself, and the work still hardly gets done because HR cunts are putting everyone on diversity courses and Tyrone and Abdul don't know basic multiplication. With the introduction of women and cheap foreign labour conditions have sank but no-one wants to talk about it because either that's sexist and racist or because they got frog-boiled and convinced themselves it was always like this. Ask anyone who has worked in a dangerous environment such as railway track maintenance (meaning some education is required for health and safety reasons, and no women because it involves actual work); you'll find shit gets done early and when shit gets done you go home. They're the last bastion for the working man, but the pay is still shit.
